The Trump administration is cancelling the legally-obtained Social Security numbers of immigrant workers, making it effectively impossible for them to work, hold bank accounts or credit cards, rent homes or other financial activities, according to news reports late Thursday.
The move is part of the administration’s crackdown on immigration and the goal is to pressure the workers to “self-deport,” the
New York Times reported, citing documents viewed by the newspaper and six people familiar with the plans.
